Let the Journey Begin: Finding God’s Best for Your Life

by Max Lucado (Thomas Nelson, 2015)

Although I’m not a big fan of gift books, Let the Journey Begin: Finding God’s Best for Your Life, may be an exception.

I began the book with skepticism. After all, this volume contains old content printed first in various Lucado books, then repurposed and as a gift book in 1999 and again in 2009. So, another reprinting and repackaging?

But the editors have done a good job cherry picking bite-sized excerpts from Lucado’s many books, many of which have excellent principles written in Max’s inimitable way. The devotions divide into sections:

  • Success
  • Habits
  • Finding Direction
  • Dealing with Setbacks
  • Walking with God

My favorite quote from the book is about contentment:

Content. That’s the word. A state of heart in which you would be at peace if God gave you nothing more than he already has. Test yourself with this question: What if God’s only gift to you were his grace to save you? Would you be content?

Although Let the Journey Begin: Finding God’s Best for Your Life is marketed to graduates, the topics truly relate to anyone seeking to find and follow God’s wisdom.
