I’m always looking for a good source for free Christian e-books. A little searching yielded some great results I’ll share with you. If you have an iPad or Kindle or some other device (even a computer) that allows you to read e-books, you’ll want to take advantage of some great free titles.
Amazon now sells more e-books than physical books. The advantage is that many classic titles on the spiritual life or Christianity are available dirt cheap—and some for free.
Often with free e-books, you get what you pay for. But if you’re willing to sift through the haystack, you’ll find some gems.
I did some digging and I’ve provided links to some great free Christian e-books—as well as how to search for others.
Start with a Reading Device or Free Software
First off, you don’t have to have a Kindle reader to read e-books you download from Amazon. But you will need an account with Amazon.
Just download the free software to read the books on your:
- Computer
- Kindle Reader
- Smartphone
- Tablet (like an iPad or Android)
I use the Kindle reader for iPad and it works great. If you need help with installation, check out this page.

Browsing and Searching for Christian E-books
You can see the top 100 free titles in the Religion and Spirituality category (some of which are really oddball books).
You can also search by publisher. Just type their name in the search bar. Some good Christian publishers who offer free Christian e-books are:
- Crossway Books
- P & R Books (or Puritan and Reformed)
- Zondervan Publishing
- Multnomah Books
- Moody Press
- Thomas Nelson Books
- Word Publishing
You’ll want to check back occasionally, because publishers update their stock often.
Free Sample Chapters for Most Books
Try before you buy. Most e-books available for purchase will allow you to download a sample chapter for free. Even before I buy a physical book, I try to check out the sample chapter from Amazon. Just click the “Try it Free” button on the right of Amazon’s page.
Here are my e-books as an example:
